Our Production process

Wool blankets from Djerba are created by hand using ancient methods that have been handed down through the years. These blankets often use wool from local sheep, who are prized for producing fine wool. When the wool has been spun and naturally coloured, it is woven into blankets on conventional looms.

Wool blankets from Djerba are renowned for their unique patterns, which frequently include geometric shapes and vivid colors. These designs, which are a representation of the island's history, are thought to be influenced by the island's nature and culture.

These blankets may cost more than mass-produced blankets since they are handmade and produced using traditional methods, but their craftsmanship and cultural history make them far more valuable. They make wonderful house decorations or fantastic mementos.

Wool blankets made in Djerba were prized for their superior craftsmanship and distinctive patterns. The blankets, which were woven by regional craftsmen on antique looms, frequently had elaborate designs and vivid colors.

It was claimed that the island's culture and history served as inspiration for these designs.

Djerba, Tunisia

Djerba is an island located off the coast of Tunisia, known for its beautiful beaches, historic sites, and vibrant culture.
The island is also home to a long tradition of textile production, particularly wool blankets.

Due to its advantageous location in the Mediterranean, Djerba used to be a major hub for trade in North Africa.
The island served as a crossroads for trade between sub-Saharan Africa, Europe, and North Africa.
Wool blankets were among the most significant textile trade goods.

Traders from sub-Saharan Africa who traveled through the Sahara desert to reach North Africa and Djerba placed a high value on wool blankets.
The blankets were exchanged for the abundantly available valuables in sub-Saharan Africa, such as gold, ivory, and other valuables.
